President Barack Obama bowed to political pressure from Democratic and Republican lawmakers not to send any more prisoners to Yemen as a result of revelations that a would-be bomber on a Detroit-bound plane had received al Qaeda training in Yemen.

Several of the roughly 91 Yemeni detainees at Guantanamo Bay had been cleared to be sent home, as the Obama administration struggles to close the prison.
@h Heine: must not realize the US Constitution applies to US citizens ONLY… and Geneva Convention applies to prisoners of war ONLY, neither of which apply to TERRORISTS, duh!

maybe when one crashes a State dinner with a bomb under his dress.

  2. Do your thing says:

Libs will say all the folks in Gitmo were on a Sunday picnic when they were aprehended.

  3. Susiepolls2008 says:

The only detainees left in GITMO are the most dangerous. For obama to send those back to Yemen is beyond belief.

  4. Laughing Man says:

We do not need Guantanamo Bay detention camp, we need to regain respect and the high ground in the world. That is what is needed. If we cannot lead by example than we should not be trying to lead.

  5. maxmom says:

We never needed Gitmo. It was a HUGE error in judgment.

  6. myrrdin810 says:

we’ve got several maximum security prisons sitting empty right here in the states where they can be kept. americans need jobs, let’s start by hiring gaurds for these empty prisons.

  7. Toadhead says:

Sadly it will take your death or another group of Americans death to prove that to BO.
But even then do not count on him changing.
    In his book he stated.
“I will stand with the muslims”. I think you can count on that being true

    What is magic about Gitmo.

    A prison is a prison.

Bush is the one that released 258 prisoners… including the ones responsible for the xmas attack.

You’re wrong about Guantanimo, which has become a symbol of abuse and lawlessness to leaders around the world and is a recruiting tool (just the name Guantanimo) for al Q’aeda. The longer the prison remains open, the more danger our nation faces. Do not underestimate the depth and breadth of cold ruthless fury that was caused by the Bush/Cheney wrongful authorization of torture (crimes against humanity) of Muslim detainees, many of whom had committed no crimes against the United States but who were simply Muslim…tortured just “in case” they “might” have information ON WEAPONS THAT NEVER EXISTED IN IRAQ! If you honestly think that the 2.2 billion-strong Muslim population has forgotten or forgiven this travesty of justice, you are 100% mistaken, and it is for this reason that Guantanimo HAS to be closed if Americans are to be kept safe. Only by virtue of the fact that President Obama’s father was a Muslim and President Obama, a man of color, was elected as our leader—a man who has studied many other religions other than his own Christianity (at his mother’s insistence) and who is able to soothe the tensions (review the text of his Cairo, Egypt speech) have we not had the nation of Islam join forces against us. Closing Guantanimo is a very important symbolic step that will go a very long way toward showing that a new America has emerged—one that is tolerant of others’ faiths and one who DOES NOT TORTURE—who honors the terms of the Geneva Convention and our own Constitution when dealing with foreign nationals being detained. Not every fury will be soothed, not every wound will be healed when GITMO closes, but we will show the entire world that the cruel and inhumane activities conducted there in violation of every standard of decency or rule of law are NOT condoned by the American people or by our new administration, and this lays a strong foundation for building trust once more. The Yemeni detainees of which you speak are under review and will be dealt with humanely but in ways that protect Americans, as was said in President Obama’s short speech today. The threat to the American and Candian embassies has been resolved because the Yemeni government took action as had been requested by our State Department (Hillary Clinton), and so the embassies have reopened, according to news reports. There are also behind-the-scenes negotiations about which we know nothing. I have faith in this president, and I heartily endorse the closing of the Guantanimo prison.

@arm chair ______ idiot lol: What a boring rant based on absolutely no facts.

Obama is too arrogant to listen to people like Senator John McCain or Joe Leiberman, or anyone who provides facts and sound advice.

These terrorists need to be contained and treated as the TERRORISTS they are.

I am no longer surprised at the fools who answer that terrorists are due US Constitutional rights or civilian treatment in any way.

I don’t think 0bama’s sheep will ever admit their false messiah cannot deliver. He will not close GITMO in his own self-ordained time span. He cannot deliver a letter to a mailbox. He is an idiot and an anti-American racist socialist and communist. When will people realize this?
