Why would a Yemen national man take his US born baby daughter to Yemen and tell her that her American mother abandoned her? This is legal under Yemen law, but under US law the father has to pay child support to her mother and would be a criminal for steeling his daughter. Under US immigration law he would be deported back to Yemen after his visa expired.

He can’t take his child to Yemen without his child’s mother consenting. Nowadays, parents need the consent (in writing and notarized too) of the other parent before the airline and/or immigration will let the child leave the country. He would be stopped at the border. And if he tried to take the child into Canada, he would be stopped at the border and the child seized. His only hope would be to take the child across the Mexican border but even they frown on parental kidnapping and would probably stop him.

And even if he does manage to take the child to Yemen, he will be restricted to the middle east for a very long time as if he chooses to travel to a civilized country that is subject to the Hague convention, he will be arrested on the spot and he will be extradited to the U.S. where he will be in prison for many years.

Even Americans stab each other in the back in divorce/split ups. They do everything (sometimes) from lying to cheating to manipulating the children to fulfill their own selfish needs of retaliation to the other spouse. It happens. Marrying or having a relationship inter culturally is always going to come with the possibility that at any time one parent could lose touch and try to monopolize the parenting of the child by taking the child away. Once he has the child in his country the chances of the mother getting that child back are very slim especially in such a male dominated Society such as Yemen. However, with that being said, I don’t think that is any more mean than our own American on American instances of using the children and trying to keep the parent away. There might be laws in the states but we all know it doesn’t take much to ruin a relationship with a parent once you get custody, if you really want that. The system sucks, divorce sucks, people suck…unless they’re willing to be mature and love the child(ren) more than themselves. Unfortunately I’ve traveled all around the world and have learned that happens very little sadly. When it comes down to it most people see their children as property.
