Why does airport security keep asking me questions when I return from Muslim countries?

Sometimes I just visit Muslim countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Yemen, Tajikistan, etc. out of curiosity. These places are in the news all the time; I might as well check ‘em out, right. I also went to Baghdad for a while in 2008 and went south to Najaf and saw the Imam Ali mosque with a group of British Iranians… that was interesting.
Anyhow, when I fly back to the US, the Homeland Security people always ask me a bunch of questions, like I’m some sort of suspect or terrorist. What’s up with that? I’m not even Muslim. I just like to see stuff for myself, in person, rather than allow the media to dictate the terms of the world TO me.
Why would that be suspicious to anyone? Is it because I grow out a beard and wear local clothes to fit in? Does the government just want to keep us dumbed down, and not let us see things for ourselves?
I eat pork all the time. Like I said, I’m not a Muslim.
The guards should force feed you pork and see if you vomit it.
Why don’t you try Spain, or Italy. Much nicer!!!
Great imagination. Have you gone extraterrestrial yet?
I’ll bet that when you return from those imaginary trips homeland security just wants to fawn over you.
You must be a 72 year old woman because they don’t check males between 18 and 40.
They probably decide to check you over after looking at all the Muslim countries you have visited. That would raise MY suspicion even it you were a 67 year old caucasian grandma.
I have a titanium hip and get frisked every time at airports just short of the rubber gloves. I don’t like it, but I understand it. I’m glad to hear the airport people are doing their jobs

I think that answer says it best with small changes,
They do not harass Arabic males 18 to 40 because even though virtually all terror acts have been committed by Muslim/Arabic’s that would be profiling and we all know it is more important to be PC and not OFFEND than actually try and stop terrorist.
