The Power of Nightmares Volume 1 Part 4 of 6

Interesting BBC film concerning the parallel development of modern Islamic radicalism and Neo-conservatism. Details the rise of the latter movement and its masquerade as traditional conservatism to garner support and acquire power. This film also discusses the development of the current Arab political ideology and shows how both movements originated from the same basic philosophy: masses are more malleable when they are living in a constant state of fear.

@younghorsey most of them are conspiracy FACT. the TRUTH is faaaar stranger than fiction. make no mistake on that.

evidence of weapon of mass destruction anyone?

  3. RobSSBB says:

0:43 – 0:53 now we know where the mindset for the War on Terror was born. Curtis really portrays the American government in his documentaries as one huge conspiracy agency. Always subverting the masses perception for their own ends. Whilst he may misread and altered things for his arguments, we cannot deny the atrocities American GOVERNMENT, has committed. It really makes me angry that they bend the masses will without them even knowing and force them to hate other people, they are innocent.

“It was there even though there was no evidence of it” – Hillarious

Does that remind you of anything else?

Sounds a bit like religion to me. God is there but yet there is no evidence of it.

Not surprised people are that gullible to believe in a threat that does not exist, if they are stupid enough to believe in God.

@AlchemicGnosis I don’t believe in a god and certainly don’t elevate science or scientists to a level that theists elevate their gods. But I do recognize that modern science makes my life what it is. I rely on science to wake me up, shower, keep warm, make clothes, drive to work, eat, work, listen to radio, watch tv, go hiking, swimming, reading etc. Everything I do involves technology in one way or other. Technology is what made our complex society possible because otherwise, we all would farm.

  6. christo930 says:

@AlchemicGnosis Not creativity. Observation and experimentation, scientific thinking is what produced these things. People were not able to devote themselves, full time to these endeavors because they were busy getting the basics of life. Do you realize that less then 1% of people in the US now feed the entire us and much of foreign lands as well? 100 years ago, you probably would have lived on a farm. Modern life simply could not exist without science and tech.

  7. AlchemicGnosis says:

And for clarity’s sake, I cast no derision towards either science, or the WSM in particular. Science has an important role to play in human advancement, but it is not the be all and end all human “God”. Hence I was moved to respond to a comment which seemed to fete it like some “God’.
A greater understanding of human psychology, for example, will have to employ a creativity that goes beyond the confines of the WSM, because subjectivity is involved & the WSM is not good at dealing with that.

  8. AlchemicGnosis says:

The mistake you’re making is taking a modern term and projecting it back, where no such concept was being employed.
What you’re talking about in the distant past is simply CREATIVITY. Harnessing that creativity into a philosophical set of rules (a la the Greeks) to dictate one’s movement forward is what has come to be called SCIENCE.
And contrary to your assertion, art is as old as man is. People had plenty enough time to draw on cave walls between meals, the evidence still exists proving it.

  9. christo930 says:

    @AlchemicGnosis
Now you have changed science to some sort of academic western idea? Science has existed since the beginning of human existence. When a greek used a 2 sticks and shadows to measure the earth, even when man tamed fire.
You also forget about all the death and despair that modern science has gotten rid of. Most people rarely, if ever, did any of the things you mention because they were too busy trying not to die. You would starve in a forest of plenty because you rely on science.

  10. AlchemicGnosis says:

Like I said, all those things existed well before the implementation of the western scientific method.
If any of those things nowadays decide to employ technology, then it’s merely to accentuate their craft, but that accentuation is not necessary to their existence. They’d still exist – as they did – without the WSM.

  11. christo930 says:

@Billyothon You figured it all out didn’t you? Or maybe you just asked your god to whisper it all in your ear? You go on talking to your imaginary friend while we continue to destroy our environment and have more kids. What if it turns out you’re wrong and it turns out that these aren’t the end times after all and we end up with a wasteland planet and 12 billion mouths to feed?

  12. christo930 says:

@AlchemicGnosis Every single thing you mentioned revolve around science with the possible exception of dancing, unless you are referring to watching others dance.
Novels, typed electronically, edited and laid electronically, printed on a modern press with technology… Paintings – chemistry, music electronics… Then there is the transport system which is technology driven…
Like I said, every singly aspect in your life is tied to science, especially food.

  13. AlchemicGnosis says:

***Every single aspect of your life revolves around science***

That’s funny. I wasn’t aware that novels, paintings, dance, music, you know, stuff that’s food for the heart, all revolved around science.
All things that we humans have had since well before we started employing the western scientific method.

Me thinks you’re someone with a strong left-hand side brain bias, to be making such half-assed assertions.

  14. AlchemicGnosis says:

Global Warming is another lie being sold to the masses.
Lies when retold have a habit of changing – have you noticed yet the label is now Climate Change, & no longer Global Warming? Bullshit carbon taxes ahead for the masses, another way the politicians can rob you of your hard earned money.
Anyone trying to sell you the story that “the science is settled” is bullshitting you so much their stink can be smelt from halfway around the world.

  15. MacoutesGabber says:

    you mean IMmorality.

  16. dizzitoast says:

so…. LIes are the only way to safe Humanity from Morality????

  17. iceisnice61 says:

    Still one of my favorites.
Bless Rummy for his Doublespeak. One of the best.

  18. iceisnice61 says:

    Nice, well said.

  19. iceisnice61 says:

Ol Kiss my Ass inger hardly wants a safe world, he wants ONE World, Safethy has nothing to do with it.
While this has alot of really goods facts, and follows so-called History, every once in while the narrator slips in a little BS, or shall I saw Ideology.

  20. InsaneGoonRules says:

There is no Al Qaeda. There is clearly global warming. 60 years ago you needed a dog sled to get within 400 miles of the North Pole. Today you can go to the North Pole by boat.

  21. Prizak1 says:

I know I’m going off topic, but we’re too many in this world and a handful of western countries consume the majority of resources whereas millions of people in the developing countries are starving to death. Without trying to be apocalyptic & shite like that, I think mankind should be eradicated from the face of the earth, the planet would only benefit from that and it could start afresh with different-and more deserving- forms of life.

  22. Prizak1 says:

Well, no actually. Global warming, carbon emission and climate change are absolutely true. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that we’re destroying this planet and causing mass extinction of animal species with catastrophic consequences. Ignorance & stupidity are the world’s biggest tragedies, that lead to even bigger tragedies. Mankind is the most useless species in this planet & a total biological incident. Not to mention the fact that people keep reproducing themselves like rats, very bad.

  23. christo930 says:

Dude, you owe your life to science. Every single aspect of your life revolves around science. From cars to cell phones, to computers to modern food production, everything in your life is brought to you via science. It’s funny that religious people have no problem with all the other science, but suddenly become anti-science when it interferes with their iron age myths.

  24. Billyothon says:

Or your stupid atheist scientists… you know, like the global warming fabricators at the University of East Anglia.

  25. zuss10r says:

Hmmm…sounds like the invisible ‘threat’ of climate change, global warming, cooling, new ice age or whatever else you want to call the pack of lies being spun to hold the world at randsom right now and for years to come!
