Yemen Accused of ‘War on Terror’ Rights Violations

Amnesty International in a new report says Yemeni authorities must stop sacrificing human rights in the name of security. The report, entitled Yemen: Cracking Down Under Pressure, documents a catalogue of human rights violations including unlawful killings of those accused of links to al-Qaida and Southern Movement activists, and arbitrary arrests, torture and unfair trials.

The Obama administration is seeking to expand the so-called war on terror with billions in budget increases eyed for Pakistan and Yemen, with boosts for surveillance and attack drones, special operations forces and a new military cyber command.
