Nine year old child bride fights for divorce – Why is this allowable under Sharia Law?

I realise Muhammad married his wife when she was 6 years old. But the fact that they still let it happen in countries like Saudi Arabia and Yemen is atrocious.

Yemeni schoolgirl Nujood was divorced by the age of 10 having been married to a man of 30 when she was only nine. As the BBC’s Owen Bennett-Jones heard when he met Nujood and her parents in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, she took her fate into her own hands, getting the divorce herself.
She had not even known she was to be married on the day of her wedding.
With her father’s consent, she was brought by her future husband to his village where his family laid on a big ceremony.
Afterwards, when she saw everyone leaving, she wanted them to drive her back home but was told by her new husband that she was married.
After less than a week in the new village, which she spent doing household chores, her tearful pleas to the husband’s family persuaded them to bring her back to her parents.
She told her father that she wanted to finish school but he refused to allow this and said she must return to her new home.
Two attempts to run away, hiding in her uncles’ houses, failed when her father, husband and brothers came looking for her.
Getting to court
On the night before she was due to go back, her stepmother advised her to file for divorce at a court and that is where she went the next morning.
She took advantage of the absence of her father, her mother, her stepmother and her elder brothers to take a bus and a taxi to the court.
Nujood says she hopes to go to university
A woman at the gate listened to her story and took her into the judge’s office.
She told him that she wanted a divorce and that she wanted to finish school and stay with her family.
The judge took her home to his own house and family where she stayed for three days, being treated kindly.
He then sent her with an escort to her parents’ house. Her parents were not in but one of her sisters passed on the message that she had gone to court for a divorce.
One of her uncles came to the court to collect her.
A few weeks later, the judge granted the divorce. Her husband was led into the court for the ruling but said nothing to her.
Nujood has been living at home again since the divorce. She is going to school again and hopes to attend university.

Anyway, Muslims consider the prophet to be the most perfect and shining example of human morality, almost by definition, so Sharia law is based mainly on what he said, did, and is claimed to have said and done in the hadiths (many of which are frankly disputable as historical sources, as even Muslim scholars acknowledge).
So that’s why you’ll find this kind of thing to be legal in many Muslim countries. But yes, it is basically legalised pedophilia. The source of the problem however lies in the belief that Mohammad was morally perfect (or as close as is humanly possible). This is the root belief that is the cause of these atrocities, and like pretty much all religious beliefs it is based on nothing but thin air.
Jeez what a b*tch. I mean when will women learn to accept their place in the world. This world is screwed when you can’t even find a nine year old woman without a bad attitude.
I’m joking of course. Good for her and yeah that is really sick. Her father and brothers need to be whipped in the nuts with a car antennae.
It’s cultural differences that are different from Western cultural attitudes toward children and people of certain age demographics.
I am a Muslim and I think this is wrong and atrocious. But you have to understand some people who practice child marriages– are poor, uneducated, and unaware of how wrong it is– unless the government steps in and bans it.

Yes, it’s legalized pedophilia and it makes me sick.
The sick thing is that this is even a question under sharia law. If sharia law was worth anything, it would call for stoning to death the pedophile that married a child.
A lot of the things happening in the Islamic Countries is due to the pressure of the World.
Naujood’s case was just one such.
Today, Saudi Arabia is building a Church there, and the last bastion of Islam, the land where Mohammad had decreed that no other Religion shall ever be heard or seen, is now defeated, because of World pressure.
Once upon a time, you would see a couple of videos proudly presented saying Christian or Hindu converts to Islam. Cassius Clay became Mohammad Ali to doge the draft and they made a lot of fanfare about it, though, in reality, he didn’t give up his pork and drink and never said a Muslim prayer except for one on film that needed a dozen retakes for every line.
Today, you see that that “convert” celebrities are becoming the Apostate [people leaving Islam] celebrities and there are literally thousands of videos of Apostates including Imams and Islamic Professors.
While the Muslims have been crowing of a little over a million converts claimed by them, which include the many women who converted to marry a Muslim, where their marriages didn’t last 3 months and they divorced them and left Islam, today, al Jazeerah, the Official Islamic TV Channel that was notorious for the beheading videos, has openly accepted that over 6 million Muslims have recently left Islam.
As such, you can see the defeat of Islam unfolding before your eyes.
France and Switzerland which banned the burkha and hijab and minarets has everyone mocking the Muslims still living there openly and teasing them when they go to any supermarket asking them how come they are still buying their products there when all the Muslims made a lot of propaganda about boycotting everything that was French and Swiss. A lot of European supermarkets have rejected all halal meat and put up a sign that says halal stuff is not available, just to give the Muslims still living there the clear message that they are no longer welcome there.
Muslims the World over are being denied visas, jobs and a lot of other things, today.
This is all snowballing with the anti-Islamic Political Parties like BNP growing in all the Countries and the Opposition to Islam becoming more and more open.
It’s very easy to see that Islam is on the losing side, today.
Shari’a is now being dictated upon by their Governments because they cannot afford to be foolish about the World opinion any more and, if you ask me, that’s a very good thing.
The Muslims will find things getting very hot for them in the days to come, but then, it’s their own fault for provoking the non-Muslims instead of integrating and living in harmony with all others.
It IS disgusting
