Is this the right political choice?

US and Britain recently closed down embassies in Yemen in fear of terrorist activities.

My question to you: Do you think that this choice was appropriate? The terrorists have achieved what they wanted, they might as well be dancing in the streets at this point. Do you feel that retreating is the appropriate way to counter terrorism if it seems to feed its purpose?

Please keep the partisanship out of here, I don’t want to hear liberal or conservative rants. I’m asking for serious answers. Thanks.

It was done for safety. I don’t expect our ambassadors to be martyrs.

  2. audaciousfool says:

Yes, it was appropriate. We should not sacrifice the live of those individuals who did not sign up for violence.

  3. Wake Me When It's Over says:

Perhaps it was a prelude to a joint military action which I would support.

    Yes it was.
The US intelligence working with the Yemen government discovered a plot for a Christmas attack. The US, with Yemen’s permission, attacked two terrorist training camps with planes off a carrier and missiles. In addition they intercepted four (4) suicide bombers on their way to the US Embassy.
Not only was the intelligence good and the response excellent, closing the Embassy was the best thing to do to ensure the safety of both US personnel and Yemenites who wish to visit. Both Democrats and Republicans should be congratulating our governments efforts and success.
The terrorists not only didn’t acheive what they wanted, they lost a lot of men. Bad for them, great for us!

Tough call, but yes I do think it was the right thing to do.

If they attacked our Embassy and American lives were lost, the out cry to retaliate would be resounding. I don’t believe it is in Americas best interest to be fighting 3 wars.

Embassy personnel are very vulnerable folks when it comes to conflicts. These people that see us for something other that what we are are very unpredictable. I feel President Obama does not waste ammo nor will he indiscriminately bomb targets unless he has the correct info or at least the best intelligence at hand. The embassy in these countries are just a paper mill without a real critical list of things that urgent. When the terrorist dance in the streets we get there pics so we know who and where to bomb. Let them think it was a victory, they can tell Allah how tough they were. We must start killing these guys where they are and stop wondering who they are. Good call but a lot more precision plans are made than we are let in on. Lord help them all if they ever totally pi$$ America off.
