Obama cites apparent al-Qaida link in bomb plot
“An al-Qaida affiliate in Yemen apparently ordered the Christmas Day plot against a U.S. airliner, training and arming the 23-year-old Nigerian man accused in the failed bombing, President Barack Obama said Saturday.

“This is not the first time this group has targeted us,” Obama said, reporting on some of the findings of an administration review into how intelligence agencies failed to prevent Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab from boarding Detroit-bound Northwest Flight 253.”

Looks like Panetta is taking the fall for this one.

But at least the president is waking up to the obvious, that this was a TERRORIST attack.
Are the terrorists themselves more reliable than our own government:

Al-Qaida in Yemen claims attack on US airliner
” Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula has claimed responsibility for the attempted attack on a U.S. airliner on Christmas day, saying it was retaliation for a U.S. operation against the group in Yemen.”

You mean like a week later? Obama seems to be the last to know anything.

What a failure and a disgrace. He is in way over his head and it shows

  2. Wake Me When It's Over says:

The DHS is more responsible for this failure than the CIA. Napolitano is the one that needs to go.

  3. Buck Cherry says:

How hard can it be to keep track of the millions of people who would like to see harm come to Americans ? Who would have thought that a system put in place by George Bush would fail to catch the bad guys at the airports ?

  4. thor_torkinson says:

Three days to think about what he’s going to say, and then he chose to lie. By day 1 everyone knew that this guy was not an “isolated extremist” and had ties to Al Qaida. Napalitano needs to go for her gaff as well. The wheels are off and they are just looking stupid on this one.

  5. Ally 2 says:

And, he needs to get rid of Janet Napolitano and get someone in place who has some experience. I’m so sick of the President and his czars and his buddies being put in place where they have no experience. Oh wait, many of them have experience in tax evasion, I suppose that speaks to their intelligence, forget the “fact” that paying taxes is “patriotic” (according to VP Biden).

  6. Promote racial harmony or bust? says:

Obama wanted to establish the undeniable link to Al Qaida before coming out and giving ignorant responses that you fools have grown so fond of.

Since he is a lawyer and not a historian, he understands the need to wait for the facts, process, and decide what really happened. The same with his voting against the Iraq war. He understands how foreign relations work; you do not.

  7. mr danger says:

It’s really easy for some right wing media bozo to call the incident of 12/25/09 a terrorist attack because there are zero consequences for being wrong
However when the President of the United States makes such a claim he better know exactly WTF he’s talking about because there are serious consequences to deal with if he’s wrong.
The fact that the right wing crazies on this site don’t value an intelligent president who takes the time to think out a problem before he takes action on it is a sad commentary on their inability to come to a conclusion based upon reason rather than emotion.

  8. Myself says:

Terrorism is an act conducted BY extremists. Buy a clue.

BTW, it was not an attack. It was a failed attempt.
