Entry from: Balhaf, Yemen Entry Title: “Gulf of Aden… sounds like Paradise” Entry: “Early wake up as we had to leave the hotel at 5am… we were taken to the airport in a convoy of big cars, and there we found the project Dash8 airplane, a 20 seat carrier. The flight over Yemen, from Sana’ to the Gulf of Aden, was incredible. The sun was just rising, as we passed over moutains, deserts, a plateau veined with deep canyons, a few villages, sand dunes, and eventually the shoreline as we reached Balhaf. We landed on the reserved airstrip, and made our way to the plant. Entering the secure area we went through a checkpoint, where Yemenis have to surrender their weapons. There are 60 million firearms in Yemen, for a population of 20 million. In the morning we had all our safety inductions, including a security presentation where the security advisor, a French ex-officer, showed us the map of terrorist and pirate attacks in Yemen and in the Gulf of Aden. His conclusion was that the risk was medium, and that one day or another there will be an attack on the installation. Great. A full bataillon of 800 soldiers from the Yemeni army is guarding the area, and evacuation scenarios were explained to us. The “threat” was mostly internal for us, as a small incident can quickly degenerate into a demonstration …

I am an American male, I would be in the country for 2 monthes, June-July. I already have plans for housing and travel, but need advice on other stuff. What type of clothing should I bring? How much spending money? How much is a loaf of bread, a simple native outfit, meals, and other daily exspence? I would like the prices in Yemeni Rials. Please any information would be helpful! PEACE

We are planning a trip overseas, with me being American with Philipine accent——-How safe is it for me and my children to travel to Yemen with my husband, we would really like to go and bring our families together(my husbands family and our children)???
my husband is from Sanaa, so i think we would be traveling somewhere close to Ibb.
the family does not look american, depending on what state we are in here, we are mistaken for mexican, puerto rican, and also arab, but we do not speak arabic, hubby does, me and children do not.

unpaid loan and credit card and will be traveling to yemen via doha transit, will there be a problem?

I saw a documentary , where they travelled to Yemen..?
I saw how people ate with their hands. but I noticed that as a side dish green onions is a must in their staples.
They ate it raw..just like a side dish of kimchi.

Is this common in the arab culture?
Very interesting.
